Difference between Output and Outcome
I was intrigued by the concept of Output vs. Outcome until I read the book INSPIRED - How to create Tech Products that Customers Love.
The book illustrates how typical Product Roadmaps do not serve the purpose. This is because typical Product roadmaps are list of outputs and features. A lot of the ideas would not work and the ideas that work would require several iterations before they start to give business outcomes.
So, what would be the alternative to Product Roadmaps.
1. Management gives 2-3 business outcomes every quarter and let the Product teams decide on the roadmap that meets these objectives.
2. For high-integrity commitments, product team focuses on quick product discovery and thereafter commits to a timeline.
Thanks Abhilash N L for the book recommendation.
